PayPal Plans To Expand Irish Operations
Updated : Mar 31, 2009
Online payments company PayPal has announced it is setting up a new European centre of excellence in Dublin, which will result in the creation of 35 jobs.
PayPal President Scott Thompson said the 35 new positions are highly skilled jobs and is part of a €15m investment which has been supported by the IDA.
The company already employs 900 people at its centre in Ballycoolin in west Dublin. Mt Thompson said the company's investment in Dublin over the last six years had worked out extraordinarily well and investing more money seemed the natural thing to do.
IDA Chief Executive Barry O'Leary has said the negative publicity about Ireland's financial position is not affecting foreign direct investment. Speaking at the announcement by PayPal, Mr O'Leary said it is important to remember there is still foreign direct investment going on and more announcements can be expected in the coming weeks.
He said Ireland will continue to punch above its weight when it comes to attracting such investment.
