Ocean Energy Possibilities And 66 New Jobs In Cork
Updated : Apr 8, 2009
Ireland could create 20,000 jobs by exploiting 'first mover' advantage in the burgeoning ocean energy sector, according to wave energy pioneer John McCarthy, of Ocean Energy. However, McCarthy fears that unless Ireland seizes the initiative the opportunity to become the world leader in ocean energy technology will be lost in the same way as it has been with the wind industry. McCarthy will address the Global Marine Renewable Energy Conference in Washington later this month.
Meanwhile, Seattle games firm Big Fish is to create up to 60 jobs in Cork with the opening of a new operation. The jobs will mainly be customer service roles and the new division will be located in Mahon. Former O2 chief technology officer Oliver Coughlan is understood to be involved with the company. Big Fish Games has several lines of business, including distribution of downloadable casual games, ad-supported free online games, game development studios, e-greetings and social networking. An official announcement is expected on Thursday.
