Working For A Day Off!

Updated : Apr 15, 2009

Before VeryHappyPig decided to dedicate its life to the uplifting of peoples spirits it worked in a job with great over time benefits. In fact an extra five to ten hours per week enabled us to get a flat screen TV in the pig stye, and was the catalysts behind MRs VHP’s very expensive jewelry collection.

Despite its ability to make the world go around money, however didn’t make VHP happy. VHP found it had extra cash but very little time to enjoy it, which is why we would have loved to work as a Latvian Police officer.

Authorities from the Baltic country grappling to cope with an economic crisis have come up with a novel incentive for police officers fighting the annual scourge of grass-burning-a day off for busting offenders.

"We are unable to pay bonuses, but we have promised a paid day off in addition to the holiday allowance for each officer who catches a burner," said Interior Minister Linda Murniece quoted by the Baltic News Service.

Every spring, landowners across Latvia burn old grass to encourage new growth. The traditional practice is now illegal because fires can easily get out of hand, putting pressure on the emergency services.

Police officers have been hit by pay cuts which are part of a public sector austerity drive by the Latvian government to try to deal with the deepening economic crisis in this EU nation of 2.3 million people.

VeryHappyPig believes there plenty of cash around! You need to spend money local to keep your local your local!
