Barbers Cut Prices to 1929 Rates
Updated : Apr 24, 2009
VeryHappyPig has often heard the older generations remembering an era when they could start a Saturday with five pounds in their pocket, buy a new outfit and get a hair cut. Then bring their girlfriend for a meal before venturing arm in arm to the cinema.
And they claim they would still have enough for the taxi home and a few sneaky pints after they dropped her off and stealing a kiss at the garden gate.
Un-VeryHappyPig like they bemoan the fact today’s prices wouldn’t allow them to do any of the latter for ten times the amount.
But VeryHappyPig is delighted to disagree and takes greater pleasure than ever in spreading happy news by revealing they could get the hair cut for cheaper than they did all those years ago.
Dublin’s oldest barber shop will offer haircuts for just 10 cents on their 80th anniversary for one day in June.
Waldorf’s Barbers in Westmorland Street has being operating in Dublin since 1929 and will celebrate the 80 year land mark by charging the same prices it did on its very first day of business.
VeryHappyPig says haircuts will be a snip at such cheap rates.
