Sparks Have Light Bulb Moment

Electricians have come up with what they have described as an ‘ingenious’ job survival plan.

The rescue plan involves electricians giving – ONE FREE HOUR OF WORK PER DAY - this will help their employers to remain competitive and in business during these extremely difficult times.

This means that electricians are only charging their employers for 34 hours per week, as they are wilfully working the other 5 hours free, in a bid to support their employers to reduce their labour costs and therefore retain their jobs in the industry.

Shaking Causes A Stir

A game for the Apple iPhone in which users had to shake a baby to make it quiet was dropped after outraged complaints from child welfare groups.

According to screen shots posted on several websites, “Baby Shaker” displayed black-and-white line drawings of a baby. The description included the line, “See how long you can endure his or her adorable cries before you just have to find a way to quiet the baby down!”

Once the iPhone owner finishes shaking the device, the on-screen baby is depicted with large red X’s over its eyes.

An Apple spokeswoman said the game went on sale on Monday, and confirmed that Apple removed it yesterday.

Irish Light To Shine In Africa

Two Macroom teenagers will get the chance to bring light to a dark corner of Africa this Spring, thanks to the support of a local business that is involved in the sale and distribution of solar energy systems.

MacEgan College transition year students John Thompson from Inchageela and Czech native Maria Kalvaska flew out to Kenya with their physics teacher Maureen McAdam at the weekend, as part of the 30 strong group taking part in the annual schools field trip organised by Irish charity Self Help Africa.

Before leaving they were presented by Macroom company Solaris Energy Systems with a solar powered light system that they will present to a Kenyan school or other suitable institution, in Africa.

Director Fritz Raake of Solaris said that the company were recently involved in the formation of ‘Solar Without Frontiers’, an organisation that is seeking to promote solar energy use in Africa.

‘We were delighted to discover that the local secondary school had a long established partnership with Self Help Africa, met with teacher Maureen McAdam, and were delighted to be able to give her a small test unit which will be given to a school, clinic or other suitable institution during the trip with Self Help Africa to Kenya’, he added.

The light unit draws energy from the sun to generate power for a number of LED lights, which are a highly effective low maintenance alternative to electricity’, explains Mr. Raake.
