Carbon Calculator

A new online initiative is being launched today to help Irish firms calculate the savings they can make by becoming more environmentally friendly.

The tool will be available at www.change.ie and will be launched by Environment Minister John Gormley.

It measures emissions from energy, transport, water and waste and then gives advice on how to become more efficient

Environmentalists say businesses can cut their costs by at least 5% by reducing their basic carbon emissions.

Uphill Tightrope Battle

A Chinese high wire artist has completed a 700 metre long tightrope walk at the second attempt, and he has managed to do it uphill.
SaiMaiti Aishan, 25, of Xinjiang, walked along a steel cable at a 40 degree angle, reports People's Daily.

The swaying cable, more than 300 metres above the ground, is normally used to carry tourist cable cars up Tianmenshan mountain, a popular beauty spot in China's Hunan province.

Using a pole to balance, Aishan walked without a safety wire and took around 70 minutes to complete the daring stunt.

It was his second attempt at the challenge. Last October, he slipped 50 metres from the end. He caught the wire and was rescued by another climber.

VeryHappyPig is thinking there are two people mad enough to attempt that feat?

Good Samaritan Gets No Thanks Once Again

A Good Samaritan was given a parking ticket - after he pulled over to help a heart attack victim in Germany.

First aider Steve Schiltenwolf, 42, of Wolfratshausen, spotted the woman collapse in the street and pulled up to give her help.

"I could see something really bad had happened and did what I could to help. I knew the best thing was to just get her an ambulance and the last thing I was thinking about was where and how long I could park my car," he said.

"I waited with her for the ambulance to arrive but when I got back to my car I found a traffic warden writing a ticket. She could see what I'd stopped for and I tried to explain it but it didn't make any difference.

"I know traffic wardens have a reputation for being miserable and hard-hearted. It looks like it's true."

VeryHappyPig says traffic wardens may not like you but don’t worry Jesus is a big Good Samaritan fan!
