Plans for the next stage of Dublin's 22km cycleway, the longest in any city in the world, are being submitted to An Bord Pleanala this month.
A significant amount of the flagship cycleway already exists on the north side of Dublin, and Dublin City Council (DCC) and, if completed, it will deliver 12km of continuous cycleway and promenade according to the Evening Herald.
The council has completed its design for this section which addresses key environmental issues for the area, and also incorporates coastal flood protection.
The cycleway from the Bull Wall to the Causeway, will pass through a Special Area of Conservation and Natura 2000 site if it gets approval.
"An Environmental Impact Statement will be submitted in June to An Bord Pleanala," a council spokesperson said.
It is understood that construction will begin in the summer 2010 and will be completed by 2015. However, a spokesperson added that the timeline is "speculative" since funding has not yet been ringfenced.
