Engagement Ring Twitter Hunt
Updated : Jun 3, 2009
A New Zealand man is staging a treasure hunt on Twitter to get rid of an engagement ring after his proposal was turned down.
Anyone keen to pick up the £2,000 diamond ring has to be in New Zealand's capital city, Wellington, on Saturday to join the hunt, the Dominion Post newspaper reports.
Anthony Gardiner, 29, a call centre worker, said: "I met this girl I thought was pretty cool, bought a ring, turns out she wasn't as keen."
Clues to the ring's whereabouts will start being posted on Twitter at 8am local time on Saturday, 6 June.
Mr Gardiner said he will keep posting clues, and if the ring is not found by the end of the day, "my clues will suddenly change into directions".
Having bought the ring in Hong Kong, he couldn't return it, and didn't want to sell it or hang on to it, so he hit upon the treasure hunt idea.
"Obviously, it's been a pretty unlucky ring for me," Mr Gardiner said.
He hopes it will be found by somebody who has "found a cool chick and who wants to give them something they normally wouldn't be able to afford".
VeryHappyPig remembers the day he proposed to Mrs VeryHappyPig and now wishes she had said no. Although we wouldn’t have started a treasure hunt for the expensive diamond, we would have put it behind the bar and drank its worth!
