Sex And Dublin City--Irish Couple Copy Hit Show
Updated : Jun 9, 2009
Nine couples are set to enjoy their own versions of the big-screen nuptials of Sex And The City's Carrie and Mr Big, by exchanging vows at Dublin's City Hall.
The couples have signed up with the city council to get married in the building on Dame Street The Evening Herald reports.
More couples are expected to book as they follow in the footsteps of Carrie and Mr Big, who tied the knot in a ceremony at New York's City Library in the SATC movie.
The city centre venue is expected to be a hit -- and a welcome source of revenue for the city council.
Couples planning to exchange vows in City Hall will have to fork out €600 -- but the good news is they will not have long to wait.
A spokesperson said the venue is available for weddings and they expect interest to increase.
"They have to give us a few weeks notice -- but not too long. They still have to get the registrar and see what date suits the registrar."
The move for married couples to swap vows in City Hall was first mooted last October, when councillors voiced support for the issue.
Fingal County Council held its first civil wedding ceremony last September. Bus driver Brian McLoughlin and his partner of 17 years, Ann Marie Delaney, were the first to tie the knot in a Dublin council chamber.
In November 2007, new marriage laws came into effect which allowed Irish couples to exchange vows anywhere in the country.
VeryHappyPig says thank God Mrs VHP hadn’t got that option when your favourite pig got married. VHP would have had to suffer the embarrassment of such a pubic show and would have had to watch the Sex In The City 201 times to ensure we copied the ceremony in exact detail.
