Ireland Gets Cleaner
Updated : Jun 29, 2009
More than two-thirds of surveyed areas had a high level of cleanliness last year, according to the latest annual assessment by the Litter Pollution Monitoring System.
The report says the percentage of areas deemed litter-free increased from 5.1% in 2007 to 6.6% in 2008.
However, 62% of all areas surveyed were slightly littered, compared to 58% the previous year.
Cigarette butts, packaging and sweet wrappers were identified as the main problem across the country.
