Fate Sealed-Pups Will Be Ok

Updated : Jul 10, 2009

Four seal pups that were found abandoned across beaches in Ireland are well on the road to full recovery it was revealed today.

Volunteers from the Irish Seal Sanctuary rescued the playful pups from beaches in Sligo, Galway, Wexford and Louth after receiving calls from the public.

Director of the sanctuary, Pauline Beads, said that the seal pups were just a week old when they were discovered, still with their umbilical chords attached the Independent reports.

"For the first month they ride on their mothers' backs but sometimes they get lost," she said.

"They were very thin when we found them and wouldn't have lasted much longer," Ms Beads added.

"Some people think it's better to let nature take its course but how can you leave such a suffering animal to die, especially when they are crying like babies?"

Ms Beads said that they could only rescue stranded seals with help from the public and urged anyone who comes across one to contact them on 01 8354370 or through their website, irishsealsanctuary.ie
