Career Boot Camp

Updated : Aug 27, 2009

A “CAREER bootcamp” offering free events for unemployed people takes place at the National College of Ireland (NCI) in Dublin next week.

NCI’s director of marketing Robert Ward said yesterday the week-long series of events was organised to ensure people left “with hope, confidence and the tools to succeed in spite of how bad things have become” in the economy.

“We are offering a diverse week for people to dip in and out of the daily events.”

Included in the week are briefings on education options, interview workshops, redundancy advice and a seminar on starting your own business.

Entrepreneurs from NCI’s business centre and Enterprise Ireland will also provide advice on setting up a business.

A “Think2Act conference” on Monday is the only event of the week requiring registration and a fee of €25. The day-long conference saw a turnout of more than 300 people when held back in June. It includes one-to-one career coaching with participants.

NCI president Dr Paul Mooney said: “Recession has changed the employment landscape: it’s a bit of a minefield and people need advice and support to navigate their way through.

“Leading experts have volunteered to take part without charge to help people overcome what is undoubtedly the biggest challenge of our time.”
