Elvis Hair Lock Sold For Mega Money!
Updated : Oct 21, 2009
A lock of Elvis Presley's hair has been sold to a mystery buyer for $15,000 (£9,200) at an auction in Chicago.
The clump is believed to have been cut from The King's head when he joined the US army in 1958.
It is one of 200 items of memorabilia which have gone under the hammer this weekend at Chicago's Leslie Hindman auctioneers.
The pieces were from the personal collection of the late Gary Pepper who ran an Elvis Presley fan club and became a friend of the singer.
One of the priciest items to be sold was a white cotton shirt with EP monogrammed on the chest which went for $52,000 (£31,827).
The same buyer also bought a red ultrasuede shirt, which Presley wore for a photo shoot.
John Urso, who describes himself as a "huge fan", bought the top for a cool $28,000 (£17,147).
Other items on offer at the auction included photos from the reception of Presley's wedding to Priscilla in 1967.
Christmas cards, records and Elvis dolls were also in the collection.
One bidder paid $1,900 (£1,163) for concert scarves said to have been sweated on by The King of Rock and Roll.
On top of the hefty purchase price, successful bidders also had to pay 22% in fees to the auction house.
