Nestle To Crack Down On Easter Waste
Updated : Feb 19, 2009
Chocolate giants Nestle are going green this Easter by stripping Smarties Easter eggs of all packaging.
While the Easter favourites will now be more fragile without their protective cases, Nestle believe they will cut down on waste by 700 tonnes.
Nestle Managing Director David Rennie said: “Consumers tell us they find Easter egg packaging bulky and difficult to recycle. Our ultimate aim is to remove plastic from our Easter range all together.â€
Easter egg packaging alone accounts for 4,500 tonnes of waste each year.
VeryHappyPig says good move, Nestle, nice to see ye looking out for the environment. I’m seriously gonna pig out on Smarties Easter Eggs this year!
