Irishman Short Listed for ‘Best Job In The World’

An Irishman is among the top 10 applicants battling for the 'Best Job in the World', the caretaker of a tropical island in the Great Barrier Reef.
George Karellas from Meath has already beaten off competition from thousands of people all over the world to make it to the final 50 for a contract worth €77,000 from the Australian tourist board.
The 31-year-old is the only Irish person on the shortlist and thanks to a recent surge of votes, he has rocketed to 10th place on the leader board.
"To be paid to get in the water and have fun would be my dream," Mr Karellas said yesterday. "Swimming is my passion and I would spend every minute by the sea if I could - that's why this job would be absolutely perfect for me."
The competition gives one lucky winner the chance to live on an island for 6 months beginning this July. In return, the post holder must give weekly blogs and video updates about their experiences as they explore some of the 900 islands of the Great Barrier Reef, feed the fish and collect the mail!
