President Waver Gets Second Chance!

Updated : Mar 16, 2009

The honorary Grand Marshall of the St. Patrick's Day parade has been sacked for waving at President Barack Obama during his inauguration as he “broke military protocal”.

John Coleman, a Cleveland firefighter and a drum major in the department's band, was given his marching orders after the nod he gave the president during the inauguration parade got him national attention and got him suspended from the band. Coleman consequently quit in protest of his suspension.

"I kept in step and it was just a nod and a wave and I went on," says Coleman, "I thought if I didn't acknowledge him I'd be snubbing the President. I couldn't believe how it took off. It was an incident that should've been handled inside the band and it went all over the world."

He won't be with his band this weekend, but he will be allowed to smile and wave when he leads in a nearby Ancient Order of Hibernians’ march in Cleveland.

"I'm going to be marching up front with St. Patrick and they told me I can wave, I can smile, I can wink. No restrictions this time,” Mr Coleman added.

VeryHappyPig says get a grip people, it was only a wave!
